Great question! I would not recommend putting a self-tape on your reel or using it in place of your reel. The reason for this is that it indicates to casting directors that you don’t have any actual footage. Instead, I suggest creating your own content (i.e. writing, performing in, and filming your own production). You can ask your actor friends (or others Members here!) for help creating these kinds of productions. In doing this with the idea of creating footage for your reel, you will want to make absolutely sure that the production value is good, especially the sound. Hope this helps!
