Understanding and expanding your First Circle of Casting:
Reminder for all: If you don’t know your First Circle of Casting, you’re flying blind.
Your First Circle is that sweet spot of roles you should be cast as, and would be cast as, right now. It’s your current type, your vibe, your energy. And yes, it matters.
But here’s what I see too often: actors limiting themselves. Thinking they only fit into one box. Meanwhile, people in our community, your peers, they’re seeing something more.
And when you start to see yourself through their/our eyes, you realize you’re actually right for way more roles than you thought.
Expanding your First Circle of Casting makes you more castable. It opens the door to new opportunities and it builds confidence. Suddenly, you’re not hesitating to submit. You’re leaning in.
So stop playing small. Know what’s in your First Circle. Own it. Then expand it.
Because the more clearly you know how you show up on screen, the more power you have to book the room.

Hey Dan, this is great information and encouragement! I am unable to attend today’s class. Usually I don’t work on Sundays, but today was an exception. I’m doing home health nursing today. See you and our actors’ family next week!
